In view of the particularity of children’s furniture (such as usage scenarios, ergonomic requirements, potential risks), standardize product design, materials and performance, and reduce safety hazards during children’s use. In May 2021, the European child seat test standard EN17191:2021 was approved and officially released by the European Committee for Standardization CEN in July 2021.
The EN 17191:2021 standard specifies the safety requirements and test methods for seats designed specifically for children who can walk and sit independently.
The main contents are as follows: Scope of application: Applicable to seats intended to be placed on the floor for home and non-home use.
Test requirements:
I. Safety requirements test:
1. Anti-glass hazard test evaluation
2. Surface, edge, corner and point test
3. Entrainment hazard test
4. Folding hazard test: For foldable seats, check the safety of their folding mechanism to prevent children from being pinched during the folding process
5. Recliner hazard test: Test the locking mechanism, adjustment device, etc. of the recliner to ensure that children will not be injured due to sudden folding or movement of the recliner during use
6. Moving parts hazard test: Check the moving parts on the seat, such as wheels, rotatable parts, etc., to ensure that they will not cause pinching, collision and other hazards to children during operation
7. Enclosed space hazard test: If the seat has an enclosed space, check its ventilation and safety to prevent children from being trapped inside
8. Entanglement hazard test
9. Suffocation and ingestion hazard test
